Roads in France are generally of a very good quality, with well maintained surfaces in densely populated regions and much-used motorways and the like. It should be noted that whilst a lot of motorways are free, there are a large number of toll roads, so be prepared to fork out for a journey. A red warning triangle has to be carried in the vehicle in case of breakdown. Public transport in France is second to none, with quick and efficient services all round. The Metro in Paris is notable as a tourist attraction in itself, and other modes of public transport such as buses and taxis are the same high quality, even if they don’t have as many photographs taken of them.

France’s rail system carries on with the theme of quality public transport – trains are comfortable and affordable, especially with the plethora of special fares on offer. Rail travel can get a person almost anywhere in the country and is well worth it.

Air France offers many internal flights to any domestic airports through the country with services taking no time at all.

The countless canals and waterways in France can be navigated by boat, ferry or any other seafaring transport and a number of passenger services are operated for both tourists and necessary travel requirements.
